Adaptation of seniors as a assumption for successful aging
Doskočilová, Aneta ; Štětovská, Iva (advisor) ; Kebza, Vladimír (referee)
Successful aging is increasingly topical issue given the rapidly aging population and it is therefore crucial to deal with the way the old people adapt to the coming age, and whether there is some way we can be prepared for it. Model coping with life's problems - selection, optimization and compensation is a lifelong adaptation strategy, which currently in old age leads to successful aging. Besides adaptation are important attitudes towards aging and old age, that have an impact on senior's self-esteem. The main goal of this thesis was to analyze attitudes towards age and the use of model coping with life problems in a sample of younger and older Czech seniors using questionnaires SOC and AAQ. The research had a qualitative aspect, which focused on mapping the topic of retirement planning and strategies for successful aging. It turned out that the younger and older seniors differ from each other only in the use of the strategy chosen selection, in other strategies there was no difference between age groups. In the area of attitudes to each other, age groups also did not differ. The results also show that between using SOC strategies and their own attitude to old age, there is no relationship. Seniors recommend to young people and to their peers to think of their health, maintain good relationships...
Use of Nutrition Supplements for the Elderly
Tenglerová, Dana ; Kulhavá, Miluše (advisor) ; Podaná, Jana (referee)
The primary goal of my thesis was to describe the use of food supplements by seniors. Most seniors use medications prescribed by physicians and some of them also use over-the-counter food supplements that are more easily accessible. Seniors, in particular, are susceptible to considering food supplements to be as efficient as medications under the incessant influence of massive advertising on TV and other media, and many of them are willing to spend considerable amounts from their income on such preparations. In the theoretical part of my thesis, I define the term 'senior', describe the traits of ageing, and focus on the topic of nutrition in this age group. Then I focus on food supplements in general and their distinction from medications. The end of the theoretical part is focused on advertising and its impact on seniors. In the research part, which was prepared by means of a quantitative research, I examine the use of food supplements among seniors aged over 65, hospitalised at the Slaný Hospital. A total of 100 respondents were addressed, and 95 questionnaires were used at the end. The research shows that 60 % of the respondents use food supplements regularly or occasionally. One of the sub-goals of the thesis was determining the financial burden for seniors in purchasing the preparations....

Kulichová, Štěpánka ; Křížová, Jarmila (advisor) ; Trachta, Pavel (referee)
Introduction: The dietary intake of the elderly, especially the protein intake, is very important as to avoid any complications and for the proper course of hospitalization. Prerequisite for this thesis is that within the general ward we can mostly find elderly patients, therefore, this thesis is focused also on the topic of malnutrition. Malnutrition is very closely connected to the elderly and generally to the dietary intake during hospitalization. Aim: The main aim of this thesis is to outline and review the actual amount of consumed energy and protein of elderly patients in hospitals. The amount is determined by an analysis of returned food and is compared to the recommended intake of energy and protein for individual patients. The objective is also to evaluate possible reasons for the low food intake concerning certain patients. Methods: The energy and protein intake were assessed by the analysis of patient's returned food and then calculated in the nutritional application Nutriservis. The potential reasons for the low food intake concerning the elderly patients were assessed by surveys using frequential, closed-ended questions. A part of the survey was focused on the diet during the stay in the hospital, the other part was inspired by the scale of MNA screening and it was aimed at the BMI...

The aim of the thesis was describe Validation, it's theoretical background which was set by The author herself and find out how is this method used in actual work with the disoriented old people in czech care homes. Thesis was divided in to two parts - theoretical and emipirical. In the first part was mainly concentrated on explaining the method itself. It's principles, reasons for origin, Validation techniques and use of Validation in czech environment. Empirical part was focused on finding out how practical usage of Validation looks like. To find out I used questionnaire that was send to care homes, where the employees finished some Validation training which was also criterion for choosing these respondents. From these results of the research I can say that the theoretical basis created by Naomi Feil is mostly not used in czech care homes. According to the questionnaires most employees of the care homes accepted the principles of Validation mostly it's empatiic communication. As is indicated in discussion, in my opinion it's more important to accept the principles of the method then mastery of the theoretical...
